Recipe ingredients
- 2 cups rice
- 1 cup green peas
- 1/2 kg, 16oz, minced meat
- 2 tablespoons fried pine nuts
- 2 tablespoons blanched, fried almonds
- 500 g, 16 oz, puff pastry
- 4 tablespoons shortening or butter
- A dash of salt and pepper, as desired
- 4 1/2 cups water
- 1/4 cup shortening or butter
- 1 egg, beaten with a dash of white pepper
Recipe method
- Fry minced meat in shortening with a dash of salt and pepper.
- Cook until tender. Drain and put aside.
- Wash rice and soak for 1/4 hour in lukewarm water.
- Fry peas for 5 minutes in the same shortening.
- Add 4 1/2 cups of water, bring to a boil for 15 minutes.
- Add rice, salt and pepper.
- Cover and cook for 25 minutes on low heat.
- Stir into cooked rice and peas: minced meat, almonds and pine nuts.
- Roll out puff pastry using a rolling pin.
- Divide into equal squares.
- Roll out each square so that it would fit in a small bowl.
- Put 2 table spoon fuls of rice mixture in the center of each square in the small bowl.
- Brush sides of pastry with beaten egg.
- Fold the sides over the rice mixture.
- Press well in order to have a little bundle shape.
- Arrange pastries in a greased oven tray.
- Brush pastries with beaten egg.
- Garnish with some pine nuts.
- Place tray in hot oven till golden and cooked.
